Desert Silicon Announces New Executive Vice President and General Manager Philip C.S Yin, Ph.D. to Join the Executive Team Effective Feb. 6, 2017
TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 3, 2017) — Desert Silicon, Inc., today announced that the Board of Directors has appointed Philip C.S. Yin, Ph.D. as Executive Vice President and General Manager, as well as Board Director, effective February 6, 2017.
Dr. Yin has a distinguished career in the compound semiconductor and semiconductor industries. He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager – China Operations for ARC Energy, Inc., a manufacturer of equipment for the growth of sapphire crystals/aluminum oxide used in light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs and displays.
From 2005-2009, Dr. Yin served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of AXT, Inc. (AXTI), a leading producer of high-performance compound semiconductor substrates for the fiber optics and communications industries. From 2003-2005, Yin was General Manager for North America at Aixtron, Inc., a leading manufacturer of MOCVD equipment used in the compound semiconductor industry. From 1999-2002, he served as President of ATMI Epitaxial Services.
Prior to that, Yin held positions as Sr. Vice President of Sales/Marketing for Crysteco, Inc., Director of Sales for Mitsubishi Silicon America, District Sales Manager for Monsanto Electronics Materials Corp (MEMC) and Senior Research Engineer at IBM Thomas J Watson Research Center.
Dr. Yin received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Villanova University and his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the Electrochemical Society and the American Association for Crystal Growth as well as having authored five (5) IBM Technical Disclosures, three (3) Trade Journal publications and holds three (3) U.S. patents.

In addition to his educational and prior business accomplishments, Dr. Yin has also held leadership roles, past and present, in several local Veterans organizations, such as All-State/All-American Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7507, Commandant of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1439, Executive Committee Board Member of the American Legion Post 58, and as a Board Director of the Veterans Heritage Project (VHP).
